There’s something fun about finding a place you’ve driven past a hundred times and realizing you’ve been missing out. This week, we found a Mexican restaurant worth remembering and a record shop where you could probably lose an entire afternoon digging through crates.

Meanwhile, Airplane Park is getting a big upgrade for the skate crowd. Here’s what caught our eye around Anaheim this week. Scroll on!

🛹 Airplane Park is getting a skate bowl

The Gist: Construction is underway on a $1.6 million skate park at Boysen Park, the beloved "Airplane Park" on State College Boulevard known for its restored 1950s Navy Cougar jet. Mayor Ashleigh Aitken, District 4 Council Member Norma Campos Kurtz, and U.S. Rep. Lou Correa marked the groundbreaking on August 17. It will be Anaheim's ninth skate park, with a pool-style bowl, quarter pipe, mini half-pipe, rails, ledges, and shade.
Why It Matters: Anaheim has deep skate roots. Vans started here in a downtown factory in 1966, La Palma Park hosted the first nationally televised skateboarding contest in 1965, and Tony Hawk still calls Brookhurst Park's old "Sadlands" his favorite childhood spot. The skate park is set to open later this year, part of a phased Boysen overhaul running through 2029.
🎉 Celebrating the Happiest Day in Anaheim
The Gist: Disneyland Resort is bringing the magic beyond its gates today, Aug. 27, for the Happiest Day in Anaheim. Throughout the month, Disney VoluntEARS visited local spots like the Oak Canyon Nature Center summer camp and the YMCA Sports Complex to surprise over 2,000 residents. Local families were greeted with free treats, bubble wands, Mickey plushies, and Minnie ears as part of the celebration.
Why It Matters: Building on last year's 70 Happiest Hours initiative, this event honors over seven decades of partnership between the park and our city. It is a delightful way to share Disney magic directly with the local families and kids who call Anaheim home.

🎸 A place heavy with vinyl

1501 Raymond Ave p, Anaheim
Some record stores are curated like polished galleries. Radiation Records is more like a dark, tactile visual art installation: crates overflowing with punk, hardcore, metal, goth, and psychobilly, tucked into a Raymond Avenue suite.
You will dig up rare SST pressings, funeral-doom grails like Bell Witch, and foreign imports. With walls draped in killer patches and jackets, it is a living museum spanning generations: where long-time regulars now bring their own teenagers.
